Digital Health – it’s all about Patient Value

To enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery and to make medicine more personalized and precise, digital health can be a cure for the challenges faced by the life sciences industry. On invitation of the Basel Life Sciences Leader Forum and in cooperation with executives from Roche Diagnostics, DXC Technology and SWICA Krankenversicherung discussed the challenges and possible benefits of Digital Health. Werner Boeing, Head of IT, Roche Diagnostics, stated two main messages: First, digitization in Life Sciences is not to be perceived as a plus itself more as a major driver for a change which will affect the industry totally. Second, on the use case of an application it is important to be clear about delivering a concrete benefit to the patient. Technology so far has struggled with that said Martin Wettstein, CIO of SWICA Krankenversicherung. Nevertheless SWICA launch the Health Navigator, which helps customers find their way through the healthcare jungle. The health insurer believe to have found a way to deliver value to the patients in terms of time and cost efficiency. As digitization is about change and none of the stakeholders can build on a greenfield approach Andreas Jenzer from DXC Technology gave his view on how to implement innovation in established organisations by promoting a two speed IT - managing both legacy systems and innovative lighthouse projects through rapid prototyping.

The next event of the Life Sciences Leader Forum is scheduled for November 8th.

The Life Sciences Leader Forum is an executive community that aims to provide a platform for business and IT leaders to learn and collaborate. This is a place to share different perspectives on the new challenges faced by the industry. The community focuses on how digitization can enable, transform and enhance business initiatives.
