Basel-Stadt offers free open data

The canton of Basel-Stadt has established a new data platform. At the click of a button, users can access data on car park occupancy or air quality.

The canton of Basel-Stadt is now providing free open data via a new platform. The project is being realized by the Open Government Data (OGD) department, which launched at the start of the year to support administrative bodies in the publication of open data and to inform the public about available data.

November 6 saw the launch of a new platform for the publication of open data. The data are openly available free of charge at, and can be “very easily viewed, filtered, visualized or used in apps via a programming interface”, according to the canton.

Currently available are 40 data sets from 16 different sources. Among them are real-time data on car park occupancy, readings from air monitoring stations and individual data on the Basel Consumer Price Index. The data will be continuously extended.
