EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is the most efficient airport of its size in Europe. It has now been presented with the Top Efficiency Excellence Award by the research network ATRS.
The Air Transport Research Society (ATRS) is headquartered at the University of Maryland in the USA. Its independent group of experts present the Top Efficiency Excellence Award each year to honor airports for the efficiency of their operations. This year, EuroAirport leads the way in Europe for airports with fewer than 15 million passengers each year, as outlined in a press release.
The award is of major importance to the airport for two reasons. Firstly, it is confirmation that EuroAirport performs well in an international competitive environment. And secondly, it serves as recognition of EuroAirport’s investment in “the continuous improvement and efficiency enhancement of its infrastructure and services”. Director of EuroAirport Matthias Suhr’s delight at winning the award was evident in the press release, and chose to highlight the contribution of the airport’s employees: "We are very pleased to have won this award, which is thanks to our employees. All of us do our best every day to make travel comfortable and efficient for our passengers. The Top Efficiency Excellence Award confirms that we are on the right path despite the numerous operational challenges we face”.
In the press release, EuroAirport explained how the ATRS awards this prize based on several factors, including passenger frequency, freight volume, the extent and quality of the infrastructure, competitiveness, financial results and airport charges.
