Basel startup Advanced Osteotomy Tools AG wins award

The Basel laser surgery specialist Advanced Osteotomy Tools AG has won a Red Herrings Award. Every year, the awards recognize startups developing the most innovative and promising technology.

Advanced Osteotomy Tools AG (AOT) has developed a bone surgery system known as CARLO (Cold Ablation Robot-guided Laser Osteotome) that combines the latest laser technology with a robot and complex control software.

It is the world’s first device of its kind, according to a statement on startupticker.ch. It is also relatively small and ergonomic, and can easily integrate into the surgical workplace.

Now, it has received a Red Herrings Award. Every year, the awards recognize technology developed by startup companies based on criteria such as innovation. The jury also evaluate the companies themselves on criteria including financial performance, management quality and business strategy.

AOT, which is a spin-off from University Hospital Basel, was one of two Swiss companies to make it into top 100 from across Europe.

The second Swiss startup to win the award was BioLingus, a biotech company from Hergiswil in the canton of Nidwalden that is spearheading the transformation of injectable medicines into pills.
