Abberior Instruments GmbH opened a company location in Basel in order to strengthen the collaboration with the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of the ETH. There, Abberior Instruments aims to tailor their superresolution STED microscopes specifically to the needs of the researchers at the D-BSSE, who will also have access to the latest product generations at the location in Basel.
Dr. Gerald Donnert, CEO of Abberior Instruments, looks forward to putting to use new technologies such as MINFLUX, which enables molecular resolution: “We find a variety of exciting fields of application in the Basel area.” Basel, he adds, is “an outstanding and innovative biotech hub in Europe with a big potential for superresolution microscopy applications”.
Abberior Instruments GmbH was founded by Nobel prize laureate Stefan Hell and senior scientists from his research group in 2012. The company is a spin-off from the Max Planck Institute of Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen and the German Cancer Research Institute in Heidelberg. The companies' headquarters are based in Göttingen, Germany. More company locations are in Heidelberg, Germany, and in Jupiter, Florida, USA. During the founding process in Basel, Abberior Instruments GmbH was supported by BaselArea.swiss.
