The telemedicine company Medgate has developed a new app. This enables users to make a telemedical doctor’s appointment even at short notice. As a new feature, the consultation can now also be via video on the smartphone.
Medgate has been making telemedical consultations possible for almost 20 years. Until now, these have been over the phone or by video link from a pharmacy or over the internet. With the new Medgate App, the Basel company will be offering a new option, as it reported in a press release. Video consultations can now take place via the patient’s smartphone. The app also has a function for booking appointments.
App users simply provide their symptoms and preferred appointment slot. Sound and video recordings can also be uploaded. A doctor will then contact the patient at the appointed time. A digital treatment plan is later sent via the app to the patient, who can also rate the doctor after the consultation.
The Medgate App is now available for Android and iOS free of charge. Medgate developed it together with Open Web Technology, which is a subsidiary of Swisscom. “The app meets the expectations of today for modern communications between patient and doctor. This is what digitalisation in healthcare is all about,” comments Thomas Bachofner, CEO of Swisscom Health, in the press release. The app can be used by members of various Medgate partner health insurance companies as well as by individuals with private Medgate membership.
