U.S. study names Switzerland best country in the world

Switzerland has been named “the best country in the world” by a new study, standing out in particular for its business-friendly environment.

The media firm U.S. News & World Report, the consultancy Y&R’s BAV Group, and the business school the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania conducted a study in which they surveyed more than 21,000 people for their opinion on different countries.

Switzerland came in first place in the overall ranking for a second consecutive year. Last year was the first time Switzerland was included in the survey. Canada ranked after Switzerland, followed by Germany, the U.K. and Japan.

Switzerland also came in first place in the category To Headquarter a Corporation, which takes into consideration a country’s connection to the rest of the world, economic stability, education of the population, tax environment, safety, infrastructure, corruption and legal framework.

The survey also questioned respondents about quality of life and entrepreneurship. Switzerland came in sixth place in the quality of life category, and fifth place for entrepreneurship. It is also considered the third best country in the world to retire comfortably.
