The Basel-based data management company BC Platforms has launched BC|RQUEST, a resource for the integrated analysis of genomic and clinical data.
BC Platforms has set itself the objective of building the world’s leading analytics resource for healthcare and industry by 2020, which will provide access to genomic and clinical data of more than 5 million people.
To this end, the Basel-based company founded the Open Biobank Research Enhancement Alliance (OBREA). Its members can use BC|RQUEST to connect biobanks, researchers and industry, which will facilitate browsing and analytics of genomic and clinical data that has been aggregated across biobanks.
“Through this initiative we make it possible for researchers to immediately access the combined data assets of a global network of biobanks, saving them the time and expense involved in locating suitable samples and harmonizing multiple sources of data,” Tero Silvola, CEO of BC Platforms, said in a statement.
BC Platforms is collaborating with Microsoft, an OBREA member, to simplify the analysis of large amounts of data.
“We strongly believe that the combination of genomics and technology will transform the whole of healthcare and life science working practices. This is a major step towards supporting precision medicine,” said Geralyn Miller, director of Microsoft Genomics.
