Liestal – The Basel-Landschaft government will continue to support the regional centre of the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) in Muttenz. The centre is a catalyst for innovation, helping SMEs in the region in particular.
CSEM in Muttenz turns basic research into new technologies and extra knowledge. Thanks to operating contributions from the canton of Basel-Landschaft, industrial companies in the region have benefitted from the services of CSEM. In particular, SMEs – many of which do not have their own research units – have been able to strengthen their efforts in the field of innovation.
“By establishing technology platforms, CSEM acts as a catalyst for innovation for regional SMEs and industrial enterprises,” said the Basel-Landschaft government in a statement. Overall, CSEM is regarded as a “reliable partner” in the era of digital change.
The government has now announced that it will continue to fund CSEM for the years 2019 to 2022, and a commitment loan of 8 million Swiss francs covering these years has been submitted to the cantonal parliament for approval. Although the amount is 1 million francs less than the period 2014 to 2018, the measures will nonetheless ensure a “long-term commitment in favour of CSEM Muttenz”, according to the government.
