Olten – The University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland has won the Swiss Industry 4.0 Award for its efforts in the field of digital transformation.
The Swiss Industry 4.0 Award is handed out by Autexis, SAP, Siemens and Swisscom. It recognises educational programmes in the field of Industry 4.0 and highlights digital transformation in the education field. Education is the engine of the future and the basis of economic success, according to a statement on this year’s prize.
The University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) won this year’s Swiss Industry 4.0 Award because it is an “extraordinary success story”. There are more than 11,000 students attending the nine universities belonging to the FHNW. Since it was founded in 2006, around 2,000 of its students find a job at a Swiss company each year, most of whom possess “profound knowledge about the development of Industry 4.0 and digital transformation”.
Digital transformation and Industry 4.0 are an important mission for the universities, said Ursula Renold, chair of the university’s board. Digital transformation is an issue that affects all disciplines, not just technical ones. As such, the FHNW even has an interdisciplinary competence centre for Industry 4.0, which the School of Business and the School of Applied Psychology are participating in.
